Wing foiling - the new entry point

Wing foiling is the fastest-growing watersport. It's easier to start than kitesurfing, requires less wind (10-15 knots is enough), and the kit is more portable. Most adults can stand and glide within 3-5 hours of lessons.

Kitesurfing - the established sport

Kitesurfing has a longer initial learning curve (10-15 hours), higher peak excitement (big air, waves, foiling all possible), and a far more established global infrastructure of schools and destinations.

Cost comparison

A complete wing kit costs £1,800-3,500. A complete kite kit costs £2,500-4,500. Wings hold value better as the market is still growing.

Which to learn first - honest answer

If you're under 35 and want maximum excitement, kitesurfing remains the better lifelong sport. If you're 40+, time-poor, or want a forgiving entry, wing foiling is genuinely easier. Many people now do both - they complement each other.

Crossing over later

Going from wing to kite later is straightforward - the board control transfers. Going from kite to wing is also easy. The two communities are increasingly overlapping at the same destinations.
