Cabarete

Cabarete is the world's most famous learning destination. A horseshoe bay catches a near-textbook thermal breeze almost every afternoon between Christmas and August - the wind builds from late morning, peaks at 18-24 knots by 2pm, and dies softly into a glorious sunset. Reef-protected flat water in the bay, waves outside, two dozen kite schools competing on price. The town itself is a relaxed strip of beach bars and surf shops that feels like the Dominican Republic's permanent gap-year retreat.
